A Trip to Harpers Ferry

Over the weekend, Julie and I took a day trip to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Probably made most famous by John Brown’s 1859 raid on the arsenal located there, the modern community is a picturesque vacation spot, national park, and way station on the Appalachian Trail.

The selfie is from atop the Maryland Heights overlook. Sitting at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers, this location is the meeting point of three states: Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The second photo is of the still functional Harpers Ferry train depot. Built in 1889, it is a very fine example of classic B&O depot architecture.
